Spring cleaning

The Norwegian Road Authority is presently carrying out routine cleaning and maintenance of the region’s tunnels. It’s now the turn of both the Byfjord and Mastrafjord tunnels – collectively known as Rennfast.

This weekend

Although they say that they wish to cause motorists as little inconvenience as possible by carrying out the work during off-peak periods, the work is to be carried out continuously between Friday and Sunday, from 20:00 to 15:00.

Closures and waiting

“For safety reasons, the tunnels can be completely closed at times” Tore Tysse, the Authority’s on-duty operations representative tells The Foreigner.

He goes on to say that when traffic is allowed in to the tunnels, there may be waits of up to 30 minutes in both directions whilst cars are guided through them in single-line convoys aided by an escort vehicle.

Motorists are advised to be both patient, and to leave plenty of time for their journey.
