Last year’s tills bubbled to the tune of 513 million litres, with average Norwegians consuming approximately 117 litres per capita, reports Adresseavisen.

“We drink far more than our Scandinavian neighbours, and soda sales in Norway are relatively high in comparison to the rest of the world,” says Petter Nome, Director of the Norwegian Brewers’ and Soft Drinks Association.

He tells The Foreigner whilst it is hard to say, he believes the increase is for two reasons.

“It is a combination of increased affluence and there are more people in southern and western Norway who don’t drink beer and choose soft drinks instead.”

Cider brewers poured out seven million litres in 2010.
