Both Norwegian military personnel and local police in Finnmark were called out on Sunday, after a patrol near the Russian-Norwegian border spotted tracks in the snow, according to the paper Finnmarken.

The “illegal immigration” resulted in border guards stopping all cars between Pasvik and Kirkenes, causing hassle and delays for motorists.

And although snowfall made identification of the footprints difficult,

“Closer examination revealed that the tracks were made by a moose, and the action was called off,” chief constable Håkon Skulstad told the paper.
