Norwegian Police have not released the identities of the deceased. Several Norwegian media report as many as 16 casualties. All of them are crew, according to NRK.

Ålesund hospital Communications Director Arnt Sommerlund, tells The Foreigner, "Nine patients have been admitted, two of them with serious to critical injuries. One has since be transferred to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen by helicopter."

"We have placed our medical staff on enhanced alert, prepared to help further casualties, if necessary, during the course of the evening."

Earlier today, 12 smoke divers combed the ship for possible missing persons, but Hurtigruten says all 207 passengers of various nationalities have been accounted for and taken to the Rica Park Hotel in Ålesund.

Meanwhile, firefighters are still working to extinguish the blaze and say the situation is under control, but all available personnel have been called out to assist in the operation. They are being assisted by colleagues who arrived from Bergen by helicopter, as well as some of the crew. It is still not clear how the fire started at approximately 09:30 this morning.

NRK reports thick, poisonous smoke covered the entire centre of Ålesund. Police evacuated parts of the town and advised people to close their windows and turn off any ventilation.

Hotlines have been set up, and concerned friends and relatives can ring Hurtigruten direct on 47 83 47 00, or local police using 79118883, 70118924, 70118925.
