The driver at the centre of the recent 176 kph Toyota Prius incident has been involved in another crash.

Police say they found the man half conscious when they arrived at the scene of the accident on the E18 motorway between Lillesand and Kristiansand, after he’d collided with crash barriers.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance personnel and damage to his hire car isn’t considered to be extensive.

Bjarne Bakken, head of operations in Adger police district, says they believe the accident happened due to medical reasons, though the cause hasn’t yet been determined.

Meanwhile, Toyota, police, and the Norwegian Public Road Administration (Statens vegvesen), are still looking in to why the accelerator pedal in the motorist’s Prius jammed at the beginning of the month. In addition, a witness has alleged the man was driving aggressively prior to the accident.

And on Thursday Erik Aalling, head of the NPRA’s vehicle engineering section, said they believe damage to the actual vehicle shows it could only have been travelling at low speeds when it hit the barriers.

However, the motorist’s wife believes one reason for the new crash is recent media pressure became too much for him.

“It’s enough now. We’re having an awful time. It happened because he felt nobody believed him,” she tells VG.
