Sami politician comments ‘disgust’ Israeli embassy. The Israeli Embassy in Oslo has reacted sharply to Labour (Ap) Sami MP Anders Mathisen’s claims the Holocaust never happened. Mr Mathisen, from Nesseby municipality in Finnmark, published his conclusions on his Facebook profile, claiming he has investigated the subject thoroughly. Accusing the concentration camp survivors of “exaggerating”, he welcomes any attempts to challenge his beliefs, and also holds the Jews responsible for committing the Soviet Gulag massacres.

“There is no evidence the gas chambers or mass graves existed. Even reputable Holocaust historians have admitted it cannot be established,” he told newspaper Finnmarken recently.

His comments have angered Israeli Embassy diplomats, who say in a press statement issued today that, “Sami MP Anders Mathisen’s assertions are abominable.”

“Holocaust, the massive extermination of Jews during World War II, is the most documented historical event we have. When he thinks this is a lie, referring to “critical thinking”, what else than either reprehensible ideological sympathies or plain ignorance can lie behind it? Mr Mathisen should set aside a few days in order to make a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau - the center of Nazi atrocities, the great center for Holocaust documentation, Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, as well as H-L Senteret (The Center for Holocaust Studies and Religious Minorities) in Oslo.”
