As the countdown to UN COP17/ Climate Conference in Durban, South Africa in two weeks continues, Mr Schwarzenegger arrived at Oslo Gardermoen airport, Saturday, following his invitation to the event  in July.

The 64-year-old Austria-born actor is to be one of many environment campaigners to speak at what is claimed to be the “largest event of its kind in Scandinavia” at the Clarion Hotel this week.

During his time as Governor of California, Mr Schwarzenegger was a true believer of clamping down on carbon emissions. His laws on the environment were believed to be amongst the toughest.

In 2006, he introduced “The Global Warming Solutions Act” as well as starting a programme known as “The Million Solar Roofs Plan”, which aims to establish 3,000 megawatts of solar power by 2015. He also started a project called “The California Hydrogen Highway”. Zero 11 organiser Einar Håndlykken has supported all these initiatives.

“What makes Schwarzenegger so exciting is that he got actual climate action going in cooperation with the private sector. Therefore, he will talk about the green economy and which opportunities there are in the future,” Mr Håndlykken said to NRK.

The star of the ‘Terminator’ series will chair the Zero conference today at 14.10 but it is unclear if he will stay for the whole event or return to the US. The conference ends on Wednesday.

According to Mr Håndlykken, “The debate about global warming is over. We must do everything in our power to stop global warming before it is too late.”
