Criminals used a stolen car as a battering ram to raid Askeland jewelers in the centre of Stavanger last night. It is believed that stock worth over a million kroner was stolen.

Although police are now analyzing video footage from CCTV cameras located in the shop that shows four men with their faces concealed, they have no definite leads so far.

“We have several theories and are investigating the matter based on these”, Egil Vestvik, operations leader in Rogaland police district tells The Foreigner.

Possible connection

A similar type of robbery took place on Karmøy last week, when thieves broke in to another jeweler’s through the roof.

“It’s not unlikely that the same people are responsible for both robberies” says Vestvik.

“We reckon that east European criminals are responsible for this latest robbery, and are now probably on their way out of the county.”

According to police the car that was used, a blue Audi 80 with registration number PX 32916, was stolen from Egersund last week.

The break-in occurred at approximately 3 a.m. this morning, and police are asking the public to come forward with any information that they may have.
